Running back Darrell Scott, the most-hyped recruit to commit to the CU Buffaloes in years, has decided to leave the football program.
Much was expected of the ballyhooed recruit, who garnered high school All-American honors in 2007 from USA Today, SuperPrep, Pradade, and Prep Star. However, a slow start, nagging injuries, and a privately held concern about his durability made his tenure in Boulder a relative disappointment.
Many were surprised when Scott spurned University of Texas head coach Mack Brown to accept a scholarship offer from Dan Hawkins. The move was seen as a coup for Hawkins and the first sign that top level recruits were once again considering playing in Boulder.
However, in Scott's case, the production never matched the hype. The New York Times chronicled his recruiting saga, making him a household name before he ever carried the football at Folsom Field.
His freshman season saw him rush for just 343 yards while battling groin and ankle injuries. However, this season showed initial promise. He was awarded the Fred Casotti Award, given to the team's most improved offensive back. Then, injuries crept up again. He had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on October 22nd and has not played-----and now never will again at CU.
