DENVER - Picking the winner of the Broncos-Raiders matchup is a lot like guessing which side of the horizon the sun is going to come up on.
With starting quarterback Bruce Gradkowski out with two injured knees, the Raiders have reportedly named Charlie Frye the starting quarterback. In case you're unaware of who Charlie Frye is, he's a five-year journeyman out of Akron who's played in 23 games, throwing 16 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
Beware the wounded tiger.
In a way, this game reminds me a lot of when my wife has, in the past, left town without me. The bachelor says "Time to party!!" but ultimately I wind up sitting on the couch with a beer, a pizza, and the remote, watching sports or guy flicks.
Raiders Week used to be a big deal, back when BOTH teams were good, and didn't particularly care for one another. However, as time (and countless Raider losses) goes by, sensibilities take over, and the path of least resistance is taken.
I expect the Broncos to come out, smother the Raiders on both sides of the ball, and salt away the game in the latter stages.
In many respects, the subplots of this game will be the juiciest parts to watch: Who will win the battle on the flanks between Brandon Marshall and Nnamdi Asomugha? Will Knowshon Moreno get 20-25 carries? If so, how will he do? How many sacks will Elvis Dumervil get?
You get the idea. Yes, I'm taking this game lightly, but to be sure, the Broncos won't be. They need this game desperately to ensure a 10-win season, and Josh McDaniels will have his charges charged up, and ready to go.
Final Score: Broncos 27-6.
