DENVER - The snowstorm moved east and dropped heavy snow on Colorado's Eastern Plains Thursday. More than a dozen school districts were either closed or delayed, and Interstate 70 was shut down because of treacherous conditions.

Many locations on the Plains reported 6-8 inches of snow with a few reports of nine inches or more. Click here for the list of school closings and delays.

Interstate 70 was closed for a stretch of about 150 miles from Airpark Road just east of E470 to the Kansas state line. A line of stopped trucks with headlights could be seen waiting for road conditions to improve at the Limon exit. The interstate reopened to traffic in both directions by 8:30 a.m.

Traffic was moving okay in metro Denver, where snow accumulation was light and roads were mainly wet Thursday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning was in effect for Kit Carson and Yuma counties early Thursday. It expired before sunrise as the storm moved out of Colorado.
