Woman jailed, accused of kidnapping ex-boyfriend
KERSEY, Colo. - Police say it's a case of kidnapping, ransom demands, robbery, assault and arrests. Investigators say it all happened recently in the small community of Kersey in Weld County.

A 22-year-old woman is in jail... accused of kidnapping her ex-boyfriend and forcing his family to pay $1,000 for his release.

The man from Greeley told police his former girlfriend, her father and two of their friends beat him, robbed him, demanded a $1,000 ransom which his family paid, then released him.

The girlfriend, Chavanna Gesick was in jail for investigation of assault, kidnapping, extortion, robbery, and menacing. Russell Knapp, 44, and Robert Groves, 39, were jailed on suspicion of the same charges as Gesick. The woman's father, Stephen Gesick Sr., was arrested in Adams County Wednesday and was awaiting transportation to the Weld County jail.

Kersey Police Chief Pat Carey told the Greeley Tribune he worked for days building the case.

Court affidavits say the man went to his former girlfriend's apartment in Kersey a couple of weeks ago when she called him to come pick up some of his belongings.

He told authorities three other men were at the apartment when he arrived. He said they beat him... telling him he should not have been "disrespectful" to Chauvanna Gesick.

He said they took his wallet, his ID, and keys to his car. Court affidavits also say they demanded $1,000. He said he didn't have that kind of money with him. He ended up calling his sister in Fort Morgan to tell hi she needed to pay the money or they would kill him.

Court papers say the man's sister told the suspects she couldn't bring the money to Kersey. The man said they forced him into a car and they drove to Fort Morgan in two vehicles.

The sister paid the money, and the man says he was beaten again then released. He immediately called Fort Morgan police.

The Kersey police chief said more arrests are pending in the case. He asked anyone with information about what happened, or who knows the location of any suspects to call Kersey police at (970) 353-1681.
