DENVER -
At least one Denver company is bucking the current trend, and adding more jobs while its business continues to grow.
It can be a great opportunity for stay at home parents if they have the right skills.
Ten years ago, Charlie Hymer left her job as a Certified Public Accountant to raise a family.
Now thanks to Denver-based Rivet Software, she's started working from home demonstrating the company's new accounting and transparency software to other corporate accountants.
"I still get to be mom but I get to use my skills that I spent years of school getting, getting my CPA license, " said Hymer, while sitting in her Littleton home.
"There's a huge part of the marketplace that's untapped," said Patrick Quinlan, who's President of Rivet Software, "There's all these stay at home moms that were very successful business women in their past career and they've made the choice to come home and raise a family and they miss it ."
So the company's looking to hire more stay at home parents like Charlie, who sets her own hours while her kids are in school.
"Sometimes, especially as mothers we feel that we're failing if we go back to work full time," said Hymer, "And so this allows me to still be focused on my family but then Rivet gives me the incredible opportunity to use my skills and to actually make some money for my family which we all need money right now."
Because of the Wall Street meltdown and new government regulations for financial accountability and transparency, Rivet's president says corporate demand for software like his company's is growing.
" Both financially and personnel wise we've doubled the size of our company in the last three or four months and we'll be doubling the size of it again between now and the end of January," he said.
And that means new opportunities for people like Charlie, who's coming back to work when so many are still losing jobs.
"I have more to offer than cleaning my ugly house," she said while breaking out laughing.
